School Council

What is a school council?

A school council is a formal group of pupils within a school, who are elected by their peers to represent them and their views.

How do pupils become councillors?

All pupils from Reception to Year 6 are able to stand as a candidate for the school council. Candidates deliver their manifesto speeches to their class peers before an election is held.

How many councillors are there?

Each class from Reception to Year 6 has a councillor representative. There are two councillors per year group, so currently 14 school councillors.

What happens during a school council meeting?

School council meetings are held often. A register is taken at the beginning of every meeting, the agenda for the meeting is then shared with councillors. At the end of each meeting any actions to be taken are decided upon and shared.
